*Women's Study Group - Wednesday Mornings
James Moore has provided a fresh look at how we can serve God and our neighbor in his book "God Was Here and I Was Out to Lunch." Often, we're too preoccupied to notice the needs of those around us and to sense God's ever present grace. Reverend Moore offers easy steps to improve our ability to change our lives from "Me Centered" to "Other Centered."

Please join us for this six-week study beginning September 4th at 9:30 a.m. in the parlor. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Lou Hanna at 627-4360 or Sue VanKampen at 627-2360.

*Time of Prayer
We have been created for intimate conversation with God. Come for a time of quiet reflection and prayer with our heavenly Father.

When: Tuesdays (begins Sept. 17)
Time: 1:30 – 2:00 p.m.
Where: Church Chapel

"Be joyful always; pray continually." 1 Thessalonians 16-17

Bible Studies Beginning in September and October

Short Stories by Jesus
Begins October 1st, Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the church parlor
Jesus used parables as an important part of his teaching ministry. Parables are meant to draw in the hearer with the familiar, provide a twist, and then a challenge. Author Amy-Jill Levine "takes the readers back in time to how the original Jewish audiences heard the stories. With this revitalized understanding, she interprets these moving stories for the contemporary reader, showing how the parables...still challenge and provoke us two thousand years later." Short Stories by Jesus, a seven-week bible study on the parables of Jesus, will be led by Pastor Cindy this fall. The study will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the church parlor Beginning October 1st. Sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin board by the office. Deadline for sign-up is September 10th. Please see the September issue of the Chimes for more details information.

*James Study
Do your Monday actions reflect your Sunday worship? James knew that a life of faith is all about actions that do not save the Christian, but that mark a person as a Christian. Come study with Max Lucado and learn more about living out your faith in a practical way. There will be two class times offered for this 12-week study. Wednesday evening, class will begin on September 18 at 7:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, class will begin on September 19 at 1:30 p.m. Sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board by the office. Deadline for sign-up is August 31.

Sing for Joy, Share Your Musical Gifts
The church music team is gearing up for another season of leading worship through music. We need additional members to join us in this pursuit for both the Chancel Choir and Bell Choir.

Chancel Choir rehearses from 6:30-7:30 p.m.,
The Bell Choir Rehearses from 7:30-8:30 p.m. both in the church sanctuary.

Joining one of the music groups is a wonderful way to utilize your spiritual gifts and participate in worship in addition to having another avenue of fellowship at the church. Please contact Choir Director, Coty Raven Morris at glfumc.praise@comcast.net with questions about either the Chancel Choir or Bell Choir.
